Remote Branch Office
Many organizations have remote branch or satellite locations with a small number of employees and PCs, but not enough to justify an on-site IT support person. Supporting them from a central location can be costly in both IT staff time and in potential end-user downtime and lost productivity.
Due to the excessive latency and low bandwidth of most Wide-Area Networks (WANs), Pano Zero Clients cannot be directly connected to a Desktop Virtual Machine (DVM) over a typical WAN. However WANs, the Internet, point-to-point bridges and other forms of inter-network links can be used in configurations that still allow central management of distributed sites.
These remote deployment options for remote or branch offices along with other use cases include:
- Remote Pano Zero/Virtual Clients, Central DVMs and Pano Controller – best suited to closely located facilities such as a campus or group of buildings where the intervening links are via high-bandwidth, low-latency point-to-point connections and centralized management is critical.
- Remote Pano Zero/Virtual Clients and DVMs, Central Pano Controller/Maestro – best suited to a centralized IT group deploying Pano endpoints via high-bandwidth, low-latency connections to remote locations large enough to utilize a full Pano deployment but still too small to justify managing each site separately.
- Remote Pano Zero/Virtual Clients , DVMs and Pano Controller, Central Management Workstation – best suited for centralized IT groups needing to deploy Pano endpoints at branch offices large enough to utilize a full Pano deployment and separate management but too small to justify having on-premises IT staff.
- Pano Remote, Central DVMs and Pano Controller/Maestro – best for individual users needing temporary or intermittent remote access to their Pano virtual desktops, like mobile workers or work-at-home users, and who have Windows PCs or laptops with Internet connections.
Selecting which option you need for your remote branch offices typically depends on the number of users at the site, the bandwidth and latency of any inter-networks connecting the site to your central office, availability of space for on-premises servers and the level of availability needed in the event of a network outage or hardware failure.
