Platforms - Microsoft Hyper-V

Microsoft Hyper-V provides the complete suite of virtualization tools needed for Pano System deployments.  Hyper-V, supplemented by Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM), provides a cost-effective platform for Panos that is highly integrated with your Windows Server 2008 R2 infrastructure.

Key benefits of deploying the Panos on the Microsoft Hyper-V platform include:
  • Cost-Effective: integration within Windows Server 2008 along with the free Hyper-V Server allows reuse of existing licenses and lower deployment costs.
  •
  • Simplicity: Hyper-V works direct from within Windows Server, simplifying deployment and management of desktop virtual machine servers.
  •
  • Efficiency: existing Windows Server management skills and processes can be applied to managing Hyper-V servers supporting your Pano deployment.

Details on Microsoft Hyper-V Support

For most Pano System deployments, the only Microsoft products needed are Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition and System Center Virtual Machine Manager. Either the Advanced or Datacenter Editions of Windows Server can also be used with the Hyper-V Role to deploy additional Windows and network services as required.

Microsoft also provides Hyper-V Server as a free download, allowing additional virtual desktops to be deployed without added server license costs.

Microsoft SCVMM is required and integrates with Pano Controller via the Pano Controller SCVMM Connector software to efficiently provision DVMs.

Pano Zero Clients don’t use Hyper-V's RDP protocol or the RemoteFX extension but instead use the Pano Direct Protocol which was designed specifically for zero client virtual desktops. Both types of protocols can be used on the same network without conflicts.

All of the DVM Collections and management functions are available within Pano Controller when running on Hyper-V.  See the online help for more details on deploying Pano System on Microsoft Hyper-V and SCVMM.
