Step 5 - Provision DVMs
I. Create DVM Collections and Assign Users and Devices
Pano Controller supports a number of different types of DVM Collections, both user-based and device-based. Before provisioning your DVMs you should plan what type of DVM Collections you need to:
Define additional Device Based and, if Active Directory or another directory service has been optionally enabled (see Step 7-Connect Directory Service), User Based DVM Collections - see [HelpTopic:Create and Manage DVM Collections]
- Assign Users and Pano Zero Clients to specific DVMs as required - see [HelpTopic: Assign Pano Clients and Users To DVMs]
- Manually assign users to DVMs – DVMs that belong to User-Based collections (for example, a Permanently Assigned Desktops collection type) must be assigned to users. After assignment, a lock icon appears in the DVMs tab next to the username.
- Manually assign Pano Zero Clients to DVMs – DVMs that belong to Device-Based collections (for example, an Automatic Login collection type) must be assigned to Pano Zero Clients. After assignment, a lock appears in the DVMs tab next to the Pano Zero Clients.
- You can optionally constrain the resource pools and datastores that the Pano Controller can use when it deploys DVMs - see [HelpTopic: Deploy Resources].
- You can also optionally specify device restrictions for your collections. Device restrictions can be used to control how devices are associated with collections. For example you can set up collections, even of the same collection type, with different access properties for the same network and then control which devices associate with each collection - see [HelpTopic: Setup Collections with Device Restrictions]
II. Create Additional Templates and Provision DVMs
Just as you created the initial Master DVM Template in Step 4 - Install and Connect Servers, you can now create additional DVM Templates, installing Windows and any required applications in each of them:
Be sure to apply the Windows optimizations to the DVM's operating systems before provisioning desktops from them. These optimizations can be found in the help documentation here:
