ChannelWeb, the CRN & VARBusiness website, identified the new Pano System 2.6 as number 7 in the top 25 solutions to check out at the recent HIMSS09 Healthcare IT event held in early April in Chicago, IL. The editorial listing said that virtualization remains a hot topic in health care as in everywhere else and included Pano Remote, a new product working with Pano System 2.6 that turns traditional desktop computers into secure Pano devices without the need for a VPN.
Read how virtualization of desktop PCs can provide the same savings in energy, and reduction in carbon footprint and greenhouse gases, as that produced by earlier server consolidation efforts – especially as an organization's PCs can consume as much as three times as much power as a data center. As part of Virtual Strategy Magazine's April Green edition this two page article by our CTO Aly Orady covers the background of centralized virtual desktops, the savings they provide, both from a smaller carbon footprint and in the reduction in e-waste from discarded PC's and PC packaging, and closes with a discussion of deployment challenges and other benefits from improved efficiency for both IT and PC users.

Frank Ohlhorst, the Executive Technology Editor for eWeek Channel Insider, looks at zero client and thin client offerings from Pano Logic, Wyse and Teradici and finds that "Pano Logic does achieve something unique with its device and software by eliminating the need for any proprietary hardware in the server room and reducing the client component to a small device that only uses 3 watts of power and supports USB connectivity." The article concludes that "For solution providers looking to build out VDI-based zero-client deployments, Pano Logic offers the quickest and easiest way to accomplish that goal."

"It's easy to fall in love with, especially when you have suffered so much," Patel said. "I have fewer gray hairs, fewer lost girlfriends, and a lot of time given back to me because of virtualization."
The University of Maryland at College Park is among the colleges trying out terminals made by another relatively new company, Pano Logic. The company's chief technology officer, Aly Orady, said in a phone interview this week that its terminals, which are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, are designed to be used with servers rather than basic PCs... Mr. Orady's pitch was... "Servers have become obscenely overpowered," he said, noting that some colleges have servers that are 95 percent idle. He said the company's devices use those servers to power rooms full of terminals so that the servers are "100 percent utilized."
"
Compared with traditional desktops, virtualization is a no-brainer," says Kunal Patel, IT manager at
Nina Plastics, a packaging manufacturer in Orlando. Nina hosts 50 virtual PC images on two ESX servers using Pano Logic's Virtual Desktop Solution software.
Marc Franz, national sales director of EMC and VMware solutions at FusionStorm, said that most users do not notice a big difference between a virtual desktop PC and a physical desktop PC. But businesses do. "The power savings alone gives an ROI (return on investment) within six months," he said.
One of the hot topics that everyone loves to talk about is the datacenter and server virtualization, but the fact is, there are way more desktop machines out there than there are servers. And in some cases, those desktops could be small, shiny silver boxes brought to you by Pano Logic.
"...a pretty simple way to deploy a virtual desktop environment and would be a useful replacement for a full desktop PC..."
Pano Logic wants enterprises to "rethink the desktop."...This week, Pano sculpted a new layer onto its vision and released version 2.0.
The updated software package will allow the Pano Logic device to support dual displays and users to access a range of USB devices, such as PDAs and cell phones. The device itself is a small box that connects a keyboard, mouse and other components to an IP-based connection.
They're offering another variation on the desktop virtualization theme - this time based upon a clever, very small, inexpensive client hardware device and software that creates and manages desktop images.
"...Pano has been spending its latest round of VC funding well... picking up WAN, wireless, and improved USB support for its tiny, shiny VDI client."
